I recently came upon a TV, a neighbor of mine was getting rid of it. However, it is a gorgeous TV, and I wanted to look into possibly salvaging it to see if it could still work. I’ve read up online and in manuals about the various warning indicators about other things like 5 light flashes or 10 light flashes, but can’t find an answer to my problem.

When I power the TV on, the green light flashes for about a minute, and you can hear things going on inside the TV, as if it were trying to power up. However, after this minute, it stops, and the red light continues to flash. Not five or ten times, it’s just constantly flashing. No picture, no sound.

Is this fix something simple like a bad lamp, or is it something deeper? How should I go about fixing this?

try fixya.com with the model number. There are a number of possibilities. It’s going into what’s called a shut down mode. It’s detecting a defect…..Shorted audio IC……vertical deflection defect….etc. Not an easy consumer repair but fixya might give you some suggestions if your handy with a soler iron (carefully) Do the research before you start tearing it apart. You don’t want to do more harm then good.
