If an LCD projector lamp stops working, does it look burnt out like a light bulb does?
Question by sean: If an LCD projector lamp stops working, does it look burnt out like a light bulb does?
or can you not tell by looking at it? I have a panasonic pt-lb50ntu and I think the lamp is toast. I took it out, but it doesn’t ‘visibly’ look burnt out.
Oh yeah, and a follow up, the lamp can’t be completely blown because when I turn it on it does project an image for a couple seconds before the image goes away..

There are different light technologies, but this method often works for most incandescent and incandescent-like bulbs:
Carefully and gently shake the bulb next to your ear and listen for a rattling sound. If you hear something moving around, it almost certainly means the filament has burnt out and what is left has become detached. If you don’t hear anything it does not indicate the bulb is working however, it just indicates the possibility that the bulb may still work. You can also try shining a light through the bulb to see if you can get a good view of the filament to see if it is still intact. These are the only two simple ways of checking if a bulb works (other than plugging it into a power source).
