how to change lamp on pansonic projector tv

Answer by TV Engineer
Usually they just are replaced around the back of the TV. A few screws to undo and the lamp module comes out. Replace it with a genuine manufacturer part and it should be very simple, done within 5 minutes.

A few things to remember:
- Unplug the TV when doing this
- NEVER touch the lamp anywhere with your fingers…oil will get on it and lead to premature failure
- Be sure to put back all screws before powering the TV on. Sometimes there’s sensors on the TV that will know if you haven’t replaced all covers and screws and therefore it won’t let the lamp turn on until this is fixed.

Question by Lu: Why are projector lamps so expensive?
I guess ours burned out as it’s not working, and I thought it’d be easy to replace, but it turns out it’s going to cost us close to 0 for a new lamp/bulb. Why are they so much?

Answer by cgi
I think the reason is because the gas inside is under higher pressure. Also they are much brighter than an ordinary bulb. You do not want to handle it without safety glasses and gloves in case it shatters.

Can you fit an HID bulb in a factory 2006 Lexus IS 250 halogen projector socket ?

Question by Brooklynboy: Can you fit an HID bulb in a factory 2006 Lexus IS 250 halogen projector socket ?
I have a 2006 Lexus IS 250 and would like to purchase a Philips HID Conversion Kit. My current IS has the standard halogen headlights with the projector lamps. Will these new HID bulbs fit into my current IS’ headlight lamp? I know that HID bulbs are bigger then halogens so I’m a little skeptical. But on the other hand the IS also is available with HID headlights and the lamps look exactly the same.

All the kits I have seen have an adapter to fit the headlight on your car, Be very careful when you wire it up. These put out a lot of AMPS and it can stop your heart.

How long do I have before I have to replace my projector lamp or bulb?

Question by Adam: How long do I have before I have to replace my projector lamp or bulb?
I have a Hitachi CP-X275 projector that is a few years old, and I am probably getting close to its 2,000 hour half life. I get a message to “change the lamp” when I turn it on, but there doesn’t appear to be any way to check just how many hours I have left in the bulb.

Does anyone have any experience if these projector messages tend to come on when there is only 10 hours left or could it be as much as 100 or 500? Also is there any way to tell if a bulb is mercury or halogen? I’ve read that this affects whether the lamp just dims over time or cuts out entirely.

Since projector prices have dropped so much recently, I am planning on just getting a new unit rather than spending 0 on a new bulb so this really affects my decision. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Question by banjo_ben: My Epson EH-TW3000 projector just blew a lamp at 385 hours when its meant to go for 3000. Why has it blown?
And where is the best place to get a replacement lamp online?

I have an Epson projector that’s bulb blew at just shy of 1000 hours. Heat can be the killer so make sure there is adequate ventilation space around your projector. Make sure that the hot air doesn’t mix back with the cool air. Ensure the filter is clean so that enough cool air can get sucked through.

So things that can cause bulb failure are:
1) Too much heat (inadequate cooling)
2) Dirty power (spikes/surges or dips/brown outs)
3) Bulb movement when in use (vibrating or knocking the projector can reduce bulb life)
4) Turning it on and off again a lot. The initial ignition of the bulb is the hardest on it and the heating then cooling (expanding and contracting) of the structures when on then off impact its life.
5) Touching the bulb. Fingers can leave oils on the surface of the bulb that can deteriorate it when heated.
6) A defective bulb

Under 400 hours is pretty low but most likely out of warranty.

As for where to buy a new one, it depends where you are located. I’m in Canada and went with www.projectorlampexperts.ca.
